“When the wind dies down, and the rain grows gentle” is a collection of miniature sculptures accompanied by a series of large-scale pastel drawings. The sculptures are assemblages of found natural materials that are diaristic records of my walks in nature. Using no adhesive, each sculpture is constructed by putting together some delicate parts over and over until they take each other's form. The role of time, the process of birth, life, decay, and death are the core ideas of these pieces. Over time the colors fade, some fragile parts break, and eventually, they deteriorate. At the end of their life span as standing structures, I dismantle the sculpture and archive all the parts in a box. At this point, I start drawing to study shapes, textures, and colors through a microscopic lens. These still-life drawings are an attempt to freeze a moment in the past, somehow similar to photography but in a slow and meditative manner. They also function as poetic instructions for a potential structure.
